Abstract
The present study was to examine the factor structure of the Korean version of Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI) for Korea adolescents and to test its measurement invariance over gender as well as educational stages. The study utilized secondary data which was collected by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI) for children/youth mental health improvement research. Based on the previous research findings regarding the factor structure of the BAI, a series of confirmatory factor analysis was conducted and came up with a final model with the best model fit indices. The final model¡¯s reliability, construct validity, and cross-validity were also examined. Lastly, the final model¡¯s measurement invariance over gender and educational stages were tested. Major findings are as follows. The final model consisted of four factors fitted to the data very well. The final model showed good internal consistency reliability with Cronbach¡¯s alpha of .89(2011 data) and .91(2012 data). And the BAI(final model) and BDI showed a statistically significant correlation of .69(2011 data), and .73(2012 data). The examination of cross-validity of the final model also showed an excellent model fit. Finally, the examination of measurement invariance tests showed that the 4 factor model was invariant across gender as well as educational stages. These study findings suggest that the four factor structure model of the BAI should be a reliable and valid measurement scale to measure Korean adolescents¡¯ anxiety.
